What
about mold, termites, and bugs?
We will break this into two parts. First mold and general bugs, and second
termites.
Mold and Bugs: SL.L.Ce this section is talking about the log home industry
in general, we have to be honest and say that there are some companies
who have trouble with these issues. Mold is cause by too much water and
bug eggs can be found inside logs. After saying that we must state that
these are NOT problems with Strongwood logs.
The reason is we kiln dry all of our logs for 28-34 days at up to 180
degrees F. In this process, we can remove up to 10,000 pounds of water
from the typical house. At the same time, our kiln process, kills the
bug eggs cutting short the life cycle of these pests. Intelligent building
practices include a large overhang to keep rain water off of the logs
and then you will need to treat the outside logs like you would any wood
exterior.
As for the termites, they are not a problem with log homes. That is termites are not more of a problem for log homes than any conventional house. All you have to do is follow the normal building procedures found in any area of the world where termites exist. Does it mean that you can be careless? Of course you can't be careless. Anytime you build with any material, one must understand the effects mother nature can have on the building material.
